undefinedWhen researching prevention programs in my community and the surrounding suburbs, I came across the Recovery Centers of America. This agency has centers all over the united states. The one that is located near my community is located in St. Charles Illinois. Their mission statement states that they put the needs and comforts of their patients first always, safety and quality care are their priorities and they meet and exceed rigorous performance standards with staff and sites. Since this is an addiction treatment center, it makes sense why their main goal is to make patients feel as comfortable as possible. Their statement is evident in all of their programs and practices because of their staff that is involved in each of them. their website states that each one of their staff members has experiences and the education needed to effectively treat the disease of addiction, they are also compassionate and understand the complexity and challenges associated with addiction (Chicago Rehab, 2021).
undefinedA Christian based prevention program that I found near my community is at the Banyan Treatment Center. Their mission is to help those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction reach their goal of a happy, healthy, and productive sober life through an array of treatment therapies provided by their licensed clinical and medical professionals (Banyan Chicago, 2021). Although this is a Christian based prevention program, their mission statement does not differ that much from other prevention programs statements. I believe this is because they offer a variety of programs and therapies. They also mention that even though they are based on faith and Christian views, patients are not required to follow those views or have the same beliefs to be a part of the program.

undefinedThe main difference I see between these two organizations, is that faith-based organizations offer the opportunity for spiritual growth and well-being. Most faith-based organizations promote community service, outreach, and volunteerism. This combined with outreach to diverse communities, makes religious congregations well-positioned to play an important role in public health practice. Faith-based organizations have unique social systems, environments, physical structures, communication channels, policies, and practices, and often, health-related goals and support that them particularly conducive to promoting health

undefinedTexas Tech University is a large part of the community in Lubbock, Texas. The university has created multiple programs for the betterment of the area. One of these programs is RISE whose mission statement is as follows: “RISE strives to promote a campus culture that values holistic wellness by educating students to make informed choices and treat each other with respect” (RISE, 2021). The purpose of the program is to educate and promote overall well-being to the students and members of the community. They offer classes about different kinds of prevention in a variety of settings.
undefinedLubbock Impact is a Christian organization whose goal is to minister to the people in the community through free meals, clothing, and healthcare. Their mission statement is, “To transforms lives, renews minds and educates families” (IMPACT, 2021). The main difference between these two programs is the way in which they serve. RISE is about educating the members of the community while IMPACT is about providing to the basic needs of people. Often, the difference between Christian organizations and government funded organizations seem to be the level at which they serve such as catering to basic needs versus promoting education to stop the cycle being targeted through the prevention.
