Detailed Explanation of The Psychology Syndrome
Psychology Dhat Syndrome Essay
Minimum number of sources: Three. You may use books, journal articles, magazines, newspapers. You may use one website but your other sources need to be from the ones mentioned above.
As mentioned in your syllabus, you will discuss a culture bound syndrome and compare it to a western/modern day diagnosis. In many cultures, there are mental illnesses that are unique to that culture, and thus are known as culture bound syndromes. Many of these syndromes share similar symptoms to western society’s mental illnesses. The syllabus has a list of culture bound syndromes to choose from.
Specifically, you are to:
? Provide a detailed explanation of the syndrome: origin/history of it, characteristics and symptoms, any data or statistics that you can find on prevalence or incidence of the syndrome, what country/countries is this syndrome found, does it affect men or women, age it occurs, how it is treated or cured.
? Discuss a case study/example of someone who experienced the culture bound syndrome. Include age/gender of the person, what happened to him/her and were they able to be treated/cured
? Compare the syndrome to one of the mental illnesses in your textbook. In other words, based on the symptoms of the cultural bound syndrome, which diagnosis does it resemble the most? Choose only one western diagnosis. The syndrome may be similar to a couple of western diagnoses, but for the purpose of this assignment, pick the illness it most resembles. Provide similarities and differences in terms of symptoms, how these symptoms are manifested, treatment and prognosis
Training When You Didn’t Need Training Discussion
connect any of the module topics below to your experiences as a learner, either at work or at school. Tell your story and explain how this story connects to one of these topics (so many to choose from this week!):
Getting training when you didn’t need training
Lack of motivation for the training you received (please do not use this class as an example; that’s too depressing for us to read about – lol)
Lack of support for using what you learned on the job (transfer!)
A time when you did not get to practice in training
An example of automaticity (not driving a car)
An example of high physical fidelity in training
An example of whole or part learning
An example of massed or distributed practice
Your experience with on-the-job training or simulation in training
The unicorn: did your organization actually evaluate the effectiveness of your workplace training?
