1. The Declaration of Independence asserts that all men are endowed by their creator with the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Over time, Americans have extended that idea to more and more people, such as former slaves and women. Are there groups in our society today who are not getting the full benefits of this ideal? Please explain.
2. As you read, there are a couple of approaches in interpreting the Constitution. Some people take an originalist view towards it and some take a pragmatist view of it. Explain how you interpret the Constitution and the reasons for your viewpoint.
3. Imagine the United States without federalism. Do you think our country would be a more efficient and effective place to live if a central government authority ran the United States? Do you think laws would get passed easier? Please explain.
