These modes are often listed in the verb form as well. In ENG101 or in another Composition I course, you may have written essays using those strategies. In this class, you will continue to do so as well, but you will deepen your approach as you apply them to the creation of an argumentative essay.
As a developing writer, it is important to continue employing and developing these modes to maximize the effect of your message. Think of a recent piece of writing, regardless of length, you produced at work or home, in which you used one or more of these calculated moves to achieve a desired effect.
For this post, in 100-400 words, consider the following questions:
In my previous line of work, training young officers was part of my everyday job. I took this part of my job extremely seriously because what I was teaching if done correctly could save a person’s life. I not only explained the any new tactic being taught but I also provided illustrations and factual evidence to help back what I was teaching.
This factual data provided sound information along with hands on and visual training giving trainees a concrete idea of how to properly attempt new maneuvers. I found this form of teaching help individuals differently, some easily accepted verbal training, but others needed more of a visual explanation to understand the concept and apply it properly.
The factual data also helped to explain probabilities that the training if done properly work to their benefit. As mentioned, some accepted the training easily through verbal explanation, but the visual training aids allowed everyone to see how to apply new training techniques.
In the end the goal was for everyone to be able to apply this new training with the hope of achieving 100% passing on this particular topic. The illustrative training allowed us to accomplish this goal not only for the student but also the instructors teaching the class.

In my last class, I wrote my portfolio project on The Rise of Type 2 Diabetes. I used exemplification to use examples of how to prevent type 2 diabetes. When I am learning about something new, I like to have examples to explain or define what I am reading about so I can relate to the subject.
This is why I tend to use exemplification in most of my papers. Classification is another strategy I often use. Breaking down the examples into smaller parts helps the reader understand the reasons why you are writing about this topic.
In my paper I listed the ways to prevent type 2 diabetes are exercise, eating healthy, and finding support to achieve your goals. By breaking down each category into their own paragraphs, then using examples of each, I used exemplification and classification to explain to my audience the importance of each category to reduce the amount of people with type 2 diabetes.
I work in the accounting department for a restaurant that has locations nationwide. My job is to reconcile the depository cash accounts for all locations. I also make sure they are receiving weekly service by the armor car carriers to pick up money and deposit it at our bank.
Given the current restaurant situation due to COVID-19, the most current pieces of writing that I’ve sent out recently are emails in the form of process analysis to inform the restaurants of process changes. “The purpose of a process analysis essay is to explain how to do something or how something works.” Although, it wasn’t an essay, it was information that included steps that needed to be taken regarding reducing cash on hand or how to deposit all cash for those that are temporarily closing.
I’m hoping that I’m able to send out another email soon with instructions to reinstate all services. That’s only if it’s safe to do so.
Writing skills enable us to communicate with people beyond the limits of time and distance (Raoofi, Binandeh & Rahmani, 2017, p.192). In my current position I use a number of these concepts daily. I organize multiple projects and perform various tasks within the project.
One of the concepts I use frequently is the Process Analysis and Definition in writing and editing SOPs. Since I am the lead for the departmental changes and project implementation it is critical that I use these concepts effectively. The first thing we typically do is define the process and its intention, if this is not clear then it makes it complicated for individuals to understand the intention of the process.
The Process Analysis is just as import and it is vital that we write each section clearly and transition from one process to another. I have currently been revising SOPSs that are unclear or unnecessary due to other SOPs that we have written or implemented.
While writing any SOP I can implement elements of Description, Classification, Process Analysis, Definition and Cause and Effect. Each of the previously listed elements can be the reason for creation of an SOP or the modification and retirement. It takes time and understanding to effectively write and communicate a process to multiple groups of individuals.
I am an outside sales rep for a global hardwood floor finish manufacturer. In this role I work with floor contractors, teach at our schools about our products and interface with my distribution accounts who sell our products to wood flooring companies. I mention all of this as a way to convey to you I wear many hats, I am sure we all do.
During my reading (s) and looking at the list assigned to us, I use all almost on a daily basis except for exemplification and narration. Top four that I use would be, process analysis, comparison/contrast, cause and effect and persuasion.
Some of these can and do blend into one conversation. As an example, I persuade a customer to use our top of the line floor finish. During this persuasive conversation I compare and contrast our product to the one he/she is currently using by talking about our features and benefits (F&B).
I ask questions about their floor sanding process in the beginning to understand how they go about sanding and finishing a wood floor so that I have a better understanding of what product may work best for their process. I then try and educate them about cause and effect.
If they skip a step or don’t follow directions, then X can happen. None of this is in any particular order, other than my opening questions. I feel it is very important to achieve a firm understanding of my clients needs and then direct them to a product that can fulfill that need.
